OurDream AI character setup: personality, prompts and revisions

Prepare an original OurDream character with a compact identity sheet, a playable opening and a revision log before spending on repeated generations.

Before creating a custom OurDream AI character, define what you want the first conversation to do. A short prompt, coherent personality and clear scene give your AI companion a useful starting point. A character with a clear purpose, recognizable voice and a playable opening is easier to evaluate than a long biography full of disconnected traits. This guide provides an original planning worksheet and a controlled revision process.

The example uses fictional adults and a non-explicit scene. It is an editorial method, not a paid-account walkthrough or a promise that a particular wording improves the model. Provider resources were checked September 15, 2026.

OurDream AI character creation: start with the conversation

Write one sentence describing the activity. “A friendly character who helps explore an imaginary city” is more useful than “the perfect companion.” It tells you what to put in the opening and what a relevant response should contain.

Choose one primary activity for the first evaluation: everyday conversation, collaborative fiction or discussing a shared interest. You can explore other activities later. Combining several at the start makes it difficult to decide whether a weak response comes from the premise, the character or the way the session began.

Custom AI character template: identity, personality and voice

Use this original worksheet as planning notes. Map only the relevant details into the controls available in your current account; the table is not a claim that OurDream exposes fields with these exact names.

Example: an original fictional adult character
Planning itemExamplePurpose
IdentityElena, 35, a bicycle mechanic in an imaginary coastal townEstablish a coherent role
TemperamentPatient, practical, quietly funnyGuide observable behavior
Speaking habitExplains one step at a time and asks before assumingGive the dialogue a recognizable pattern
InterestOld maps and unusual shortcutsCreate topics beyond a greeting
Small tensionLoves improvising but dislikes leaving a job unfinishedGive choices some character

Read the sheet aloud. If two details contradict each other, decide which is more important. A “quiet listener” who must deliver a long speech every turn is not a clear instruction. You can write a nuanced character without making every trait an absolute rule.

Character customization: stable identity versus current events

Stable identity includes the character’s role and speaking habits. Current events include what just happened, what remains unresolved and what each participant knows. Do not turn every event into a permanent biography detail.

For Elena, “bicycle mechanic” is stable. “A storm has closed the coast road this afternoon” is temporary. If the storm is embedded in the identity, you may have to correct it repeatedly when the scene advances. Keep a short current-state note that you can update instead.

This is also useful when returning after a break. A recap should say where the scene is now and what decision remains. It does not need to repeat every line of the character sheet. Our memory guide explains how to distinguish saved context from accurate recall.

Write an OurDream opening prompt with an unresolved choice

Here is an original opening for the example:

I bring Elena an old touring bicycle and a faded map. The coast road is closed by the storm, but I need to reach the next town before evening. I ask whether we should repair the bicycle first or look for a safer inland route. I have time for one careful plan.

The character has something to respond to immediately. The scene leaves room for your decision, rather than asking the model to write both sides of the conversation. A good first reply should address the route or repair constraint and give you a next move.

Generate character visuals with a separate attempt budget

Set an attempt budget before generating or revising visuals. You need an acceptable visual identity to start, not an endless sequence of alternatives. Write down the particular detail you want to change and stop once the image serves the character’s purpose.

OurDream’s subscription documentation describes Dreamcoin allowances separately from the cash payment. Check the cost of your chosen action in the current interface. Do not assume every regeneration is free or that a larger balance means a better character.

The OurDream review includes the broader plan and cost context. Keep the setup decision and subscription decision separate: first establish what you want to create, then check whether the available workflow fits the budget.

Revise one failure at a time

After a short conversation, record one observation rather than assigning a broad rating. “Ignored the closed road” is actionable. “Bad memory” is too broad to tell you what to change.

  • The voice is generic: replace an abstract trait with one observable speaking habit.
  • The reply decides your actions: clarify that the character should leave your choices open.
  • The scene drifts: restate the current task and unresolved decision.
  • The character contradicts its role: simplify conflicting identity details before adding more instructions.

Keep the previous version of your notes. Compare a small revision against the same kind of exchange. A single improved response is encouraging, but it is not proof of a universal fix.

OurDream community guides and further character resources

OurDream maintains a community-guide directory linking character and chat resources. Those guides are credited to community authors. Use them for deeper product-specific detail, while checking whether the current interface still matches their descriptions.

Do not delete an account to solve a character setup problem. The provider’s account-deletion article describes permanent loss of account content and unused Dreamcoins. Preserve your notes and use ordinary editing or support routes for a narrow issue.

When you can explain the character in a few lines and the opening produces a usable next turn, you have a workable starting point. The companion guide helps decide whether any remaining limitation is about your setup or the product you selected.

OurDream AI character setup questions

Should you assume a reference-photo workflow is available?

No. This worksheet is designed around an original written brief and the controls in the current platform. Do not treat a reference-image workflow from another tool as a verified OurDream feature. Check the provider’s current instructions before planning any upload.

Does a consistent portrait prove the character will work in chat or video?

No. Image appearance, conversational behavior and motion are separate observations. Keep clothing, framing and lighting notes distinct from personality and reply style. Evaluate one activity before spending on the next, and inspect the current Premium access and Dreamcoin charge for the selected action.
