JOI Neurons and allowances: monthly refreshes, carryover and image budgets

A resource ledger for JOI image projects, with separate payment dates, monthly refreshes and media-storage deadlines.

JOI’s public help distinguishes free image generations, recurring subscription benefits and Neurons used for particular actions. Those resources should not be combined into one number called “credits.” A yearly subscription also needs two dates in your plan: its payment date and the monthly refresh date described in the help documentation.

We checked the linked official articles on September 30, 2026. We have not bought Neurons, run paid generations or verified an account’s renewal screen. This guide provides an original allowance ledger and project checklist, with hypothetical arithmetic clearly identified. For the wider product decision, read the JOI AI review.

Identify the resource the action will use

The image and video help article describes six lifetime image generations for free accounts. It separately says that generation using a particular character uses Neurons rather than those free generations, and that some advanced options may also cost Neurons. Free generation access therefore does not establish that your selected configuration is free.

Keep separate allowance records
Resource Record Question before use
Free image generations Remaining eligible attempts shown Does this exact action qualify?
Subscription benefits Plan, allowance category and refresh date Which benefit is consumed?
Neurons Current balance and selected action quote Is the quote per output or for the batch?
Saved media Creation date and local save status How long will this file remain accessible?

Use the names shown in your account for the first column. If two balances are presented separately, do not merge them because they both seem to fund images. Nor should you convert an unused generation allowance into a cash value without a documented conversion rule.

Separate the payment calendar from monthly refreshes

The yearly-subscription help article says benefits refresh monthly on the purchase-day anniversary, including for yearly plans. It also says unused benefits carry over. That describes the provider’s stated rule, not a balance change we personally observed.

Maintain two calendar entries: the next cash renewal and the next allowance refresh. A monthly credit does not necessarily mean another monthly card charge, and paying annually does not justify assuming an entire year’s resources arrive immediately. Match each event to the account screen and your receipt.

The article does not explain every edge case, such as the handling of a purchase near the end of a long month. It also does not establish what happens to each balance after every possible account change. If a date or carryover matters to your purchase, obtain a clear answer from the provider before relying on it.

Use a refresh ledger to spot mismatches

An original monthly-refresh worksheet
Field Purpose
Benefit category Keep different resources on different rows
Balance before refresh Document the unused quantity
Expected new allowance Copy from the applicable plan, not an old example
Use during the observation window Avoid mistaking concurrent spending for missing credit
Balance after refresh Compare the observed and expected totals
Adjustment or unresolved difference Keep unexplained changes visible

Hypothetical arithmetic: if one allowance has 18 units remaining, the applicable plan adds 30 and you use four during the observation window, the expected balance is 44. This is an accounting example, not a JOI plan or rate. Substitute the actual category and quantities shown in your account.

Keep the observation window short. A screenshot before a refresh and another several days later may include many intervening actions. The resulting difference is not automatically a failed carryover. Record the minimum detail needed to reconcile the balance without preserving sensitive conversation content.

Price the selected batch before confirming it

The generation guide describes controls including batch size, resolution and optional quality settings. It does not provide a complete current price matrix for all configurations. Read the final quote after selecting the actual options; an earlier quote may refer to a different job.

For a small project, write down one output goal, a maximum number of attempts and a maximum Neuron allowance. An original, fully clothed fictional adult portrait for a profile card is enough to evaluate composition and revision needs. Define what makes the crop acceptable before spending on alternatives.

Check whether the quote covers one output or the whole batch. If the account shows a total, record that number directly. Multiplying it by the batch size again would inflate your estimate; treating a per-output price as a total would do the opposite. If the unit is unclear, pause rather than guessing.

Count retries when comparing usable results

Keep two totals: resources spent and outputs you would actually use. A rejected result still belongs in the first total. If a project spends 120 hypothetical Neurons and produces three acceptable assets, the average is 40 per accepted asset, regardless of how many attempts were made. This is not an expected JOI success rate.

Write a short reason for each rejection: unsuitable crop, inconsistent detail or a result that missed the brief. Change one variable at a time when revising. After several failures of the same kind, reconsider the brief instead of raising the allowance automatically.

Do not blend still images and video into a single success percentage. A usable portrait and a usable clip have different requirements. If you begin a motion task, give it a separate limit and evaluate duration and consistency independently. The parent image-generator guide explains the broader selection criteria.

Saved media has a different clock from allowances

The generation article warns that generated media is stored for seven days. It does not follow that a carrying allowance preserves every previously generated file. Save results you need through the available download controls, then check that the local files open correctly.

Keep a small asset record with creation date, intended use and save status. Review it before the stated storage window ends. This is a file-management habit, not a claim that we tested deletion timing. Avoid treating a thumbnail still visible in a browser tab as proof that the original remains available.

If a Neuron purchase was accidental

The refund help article distinguishes unused and partly used Neurons in its policy for occasional mistaken purchases. It also distinguishes subscription purchases. A potential refund route is not a promise of approval for every transaction.

If you believe a purchase was mistaken, preserve the receipt, current balance and transaction reference, stop making further related purchases and explain the situation through the official support route. Do not send a full card number or unrelated chats. A purchase question, recurring-renewal cancellation and account deletion require different confirmations.

Decide from your own workload

After a limited project, review the resource used, total spending, results retained and time spent correcting them. That record supports a practical decision about another month or a larger plan. It does not need an invented star rating or a promise that more expensive access will improve every result.

Use the subscription-cost worksheet to compare cash commitments, while keeping each service’s internal units separate. For broader character-chat choices, see our AI companion buying guide.
