Plan your first Candy AI character
Separate appearance choices from conversational instructions. Use the setup guide to decide what to configure before spending on extras.
Try this exercise
Your task: Write a three-line brief: an original adult character, a shared everyday activity, and the response style you want. Keep the brief when comparing your first conversations.
What to check: Can you describe the desired behavior without relying on the portrait? Record the settings you actually see; do not assume every account has the same controls.
Give an OurDream character a clear starting point
Work through character setup with a concrete persona and opening situation. Keep a small record so you can tell whether a later edit helped.
Try this exercise
Your task: Create a fictional adult museum guide who speaks in short sentences. Start with a question about one exhibit, then change only the response-length instruction for the next attempt.
What to check: Compare relevance and response length. A useful first reply is an observation, not proof of permanent memory or consistent behavior across all chats.
Turn a Lovescape profile into a conversation brief
Connect the character's personality, conversation style and starting context. Our walkthrough pairs the documented setup with checks to make before using paid features.
Try this exercise
Your task: Describe an adult fictional travel companion with one interest and one clear conversational preference. Ask the same neutral opening question before and after one profile edit.
What to check: Note what improved and what stayed inconsistent. Appearance, message length and personality solve different problems; changing all three obscures the cause.
Improve an image without changing everything
Follow a small image workflow: write a clear scene, choose a style, then revise one feature. Check the displayed gem cost before generating or editing.
Try this exercise
Your task: Use an original adult character in a winter coat at a train station. Keep the subject and setting fixed while changing only the lighting description.
What to check: Record the prompt, selected model or style, displayed cost and result. Keep rejected attempts in your budget calculation instead of counting only the image you saved.
Keep a character consistent across scenes
Runway's own lesson demonstrates reference images and combining a character with a location. Use it to understand the workflow; the controls shown belong to Runway, not every companion app.

Try this exercise
Your task: Take one original, fully clothed adult character reference and plan three locations. Keep a checklist of face, hairstyle, outfit and composition; mark which details drift in each result.
What to check: A reference is an input, not a consistency guarantee. Check current controls and upload rules before trying the exercise, and use only images you have permission to upload.
Plan the motion before generating a clip
This official lesson introduces a starting image, a motion prompt and an ordered sequence of actions. Use the starting frame to decide what should stay stable while the scene moves.

Try this exercise
Your task: Start with an original still of an adult character reading in a cafe. Plan one action: the character looks up from the book. Compare a fixed-camera attempt with one slow camera movement.
What to check: Inspect the beginning, middle and end for face, hand and background changes. Count every attempt in the cost per usable clip; tutorial footage does not establish your expected success rate.
Keep the useful result, not just the best-looking attempt
Write down the tool and model, prompt, settings, displayed cost and what changed. Keep one input fixed, change one variable and count rejected attempts. These exercises are suggested methods, not results from tests we have run.

Our walkthroughs prioritize the tools covered in our partner reviews. The two video lessons are third-party tutorials from Runway's official Academy, selected for image and motion skills. Watching is free; using a tool may require an account or paid credits. A listed lesson is not a product recommendation or a promise of equivalent features elsewhere.
We check source links, attribution and the scope of the lesson, then add our own exercise. Videos remain with their creators. Interfaces and prices change; check the current product documentation before following an older screen. Our source review does not mean we have tested every demonstrated feature.
The rest of this page keeps the existing topic guides and reading paths. Start with a buying guide when you are choosing a tool; use a walkthrough when you already know what you want to try.
Start with the question you need to answer
These guides explain the practical details behind AI companion and creative-tool subscriptions. They are designed to help you read a feature page, understand an allowance and run a small evaluation without relying on a marketing slogan.
If you are deciding whether to pay, begin with free AI chat and trial terms. If a companion’s memory is the main concern, use the recall and correction exercise. Before sharing personal material, read the account privacy checklist.
Keep visual workflows separate
The image guide covers consistency, editing, export and cost per useful result. The video guide adds duration, motion and temporal consistency. A good still image is not evidence that a video mode will produce a useful clip.
Both guides use non-explicit original fictional examples. That keeps the evaluation focused on product behavior and the cost of obtaining a usable file. Example calculations are labeled so that they cannot be mistaken for a provider’s current prices.
From an explanation to a product decision
Use a guide to define your requirements, then read the matching product profiles. A term such as context or credits becomes more useful when you can connect it to the plan you would actually use. Check the linked source and the date before treating a feature limit as current.
